Low-latency Streaming and Low-bandwidth Codecs Bring Fundamental Changes to  Streaming Industry.

Over 500 overseas and domestic companies attended  “Power Your Business with Live Streaming” Webinar.

To unveil Partner Program Targeting Live Streaming Ecosystems of Taiwan, Japan, Singapore, Malaysia, and Thailand.

BlendVision, a B2B streaming technology solution provider under KKCompany, held  “Power Your Business with Live Streaming” Webinar on May 10. Led by CTO Drake Guan and Marketing Lead Stacey Chen, BlendVision team demonstrated how to help companies leverage streaming technology to maximize business values through accumulated experiences.

The insight of streaming trends in the first half of 2022 shows two major signs of progress in technology R&D: low-latency and low-bandwidth. When watching live videos on FB or YouTube now, viewers usually experience latency of seconds and this limits viewers to interact through live chat instead of Q&A session without latency in a video conference. BlendVision experts noticed that the application of WebRTC (Web Realtime Communication) to large event live streaming can effectively reduce latency (seconds) and achieve low-latency in live streaming. Meanwhile,  the “low-bandwidth” technology is realized by the new-generation codecs. The H.264 format widely used in livestream platforms is a technology developed 15 years ago and the latest codec technology with optimal compression efficiency contributes to videos with a smaller file size while maintaining high image quality. And this allows viewers to watch streaming videos in higher quality while reducing bandwidth usage.

“Low-latency”  Streaming technology boom makes Low-latency live sports streaming come true

“Low traffic”  Codec innovative brings high-quality and low-traffic viewing without latency

WebRTC, the most popular live streaming technology now, is bringing fundamental changes to the streaming industry. WebRTC applied to video conferencing software such as Google Meet, Microsoft Teams and ZOOM was end-to-end and only allowed participants up to 1,000 people. But now it has been adopted for game streaming, live audio streaming, and even live sports events. According to CTO Drake Guan, “Live streaming technology is growing very fast and experts are dedicated to improving live streaming experience by reducing latency, required bandwidth and operating costs. Thanks to WebRTC, we expect to enjoy low-latency live sports across the world since the 2nd half of this year  and witness the exciting moment of scoring simultaneously wherever we are.”

The evolution of codecs forms another major impact on streaming industry and codec technology can directly affect  video compression efficiency and viewing experience. The most popular codec standards H.264 and H.265 are now upgraded to H. 266., Open-source VP9 format from Google, and the free AV1 codec developed by Alliance for Open Media (“AOMedia”) also aim to enable viewers to watch video streams of higher resolution with reduced bandwidth usage.  For companies, introducing new codec technology at the right time can lower operating costs as well as improve streaming quality.

From customer acquisition to retention, the foremost challenge is to protect IPR for exclusive content

According to a survey of Salesforce, in 2021, up to 73% of marketing activities were held online through live video streaming and 55% got business opportunities through live audio streaming 55% of marketing activities in 2021. Meanwhile, Statista 2022 Q1 research report also shows that the most effective B2B marketing strategies are seminars (45%),  followed by virtual events/digital experiences (35%). More and more consumers show their interest in live streams; consumers in Asia-Pacific, in particular, are more actively engaged in such activities than the global average level. The COVID-19 pandemic significantly impacts various industries, including education industry and forced schools to close.  More and more educational institutions speed up the adoption of e-Learning and this drives the growth of the online education market. Statista predicted that the online education market will grow by 47%.

Marketing Lead Stacey Chen commented, “Both enterprises and educational institutions should understand that when holding live stream events, there are four key stages from customer acquisition to retention: registration, stable live streaming, online interaction, and playback mechanism.  Throughout the process,   the most critical challenge is to protect the exclusively streamed content ”. In addition to authentication and authorization including member’s registration, social login, and membership classification, DRM (digital rights management) exclusively for live streaming industry can be customized through end-to-end control and restrict details including the hardware that plays video, video resolution, and the number of offline playbacks.  DRM applied by Hollywood film studios can be precisely controlled and if enhanced protection is required, the user can prevent important information breaches by using digital watermark.
